Breaking News: Y-3 Boutique-in-Boutique Coming to Joan Shepp

The renowned designer’s first U.S. shop of its kind is landing right here in Philly

By Carrie Denny

Philadelphians, rejoice! This is seriously cool.

There are currently three Y-3 boutiques in the world — each of them a shop-within-a-shop concept — in Berlin, Tokyo and Paris. By the end of August, there will be a fourth outpost of the line — designer Yohji Yamamoto’s luxe-meets-functional, tailored-meets-sporty couture collaboration with Adidas — landing in this country; in this city. And it’s landing on the 600-square-foot mezzanine inside Joan Shepp’s eponymous boutique, right here on Walnut Street.

Obviously, we’ll be bringing you a report as soon as the ribbon’s cut, but until then, you can dream about one day having to go no farther than Center City to shop the entire — both men’s and women’s styles — fall/winter 2009 Y3 line. Expect clothes that play with the themes of movement and expression, with sharp silhouettes and rich winter fabrics, all in the line’s signature, minimalist black-and-white palette. I, for one, am waiting with breath that is baited. And ready to shop. (Psst: To help make room for all these changes, the store is having a Renovation Sale right now — all designer merch is marked down, both in-store and on the website, by 50 percent.)
