The pillared veranda of the stately Valley Green Inn, on car-free Forbidden Drive in Fairmount Park, is an urban Eden. A glass of pinot grigio and a salade Niçoise on a sun-washed afternoon, when painters and horseback riders convene along the creek, is an idyllic experience. Inquiries about the resident waterfowl have prompted the inn to post a note on its website: “The ducks which live in the Valley Green area are not the same ducks on our menu.”
