It’s a pity that so many martinis go down here, because the wine list—almost exclusively Italian, with nearly every bottle priced under $30—brims with food-friendly varieties like crisp Orvieto and fruity, medium-bodied Montepulciano. And while chef-owner Vito Giannandrea’s customers order plate after plate of Caesar salad, his roots in coastal Bari are better expressed by a starter of roasted peppers with a spicy kick, or pasta e fagioli soup ladled from a copper pot, or mussels. The two dining rooms, accented simply with Italian culinary objects and a few colorful paintings, exude a rustic coziness.
