Chester County's go-to gourmet pizza has long been the lightly blistered, slightly smoky pies from the ovens at Sovana in Kennett Square. Toppings on the dinner-plate-sized pizzas range from fresh basil to butternut squash purée to rich mushroom ragu (though the cheese — fresh mozzarella, fontina, chevre — can be applied a little too generously).

I liked this place more before they changed some of the menu and got a liquor license, but the food and service has always been above average. Whether you just want a thin crust pizza or a full course dinner there isn't anything on the menu that I've had that wasn't very good. Reservations are a must regardless of the season. We've been customers of Sovana for almost ten years, and it is one of the consistently best restaurants we've been to. I agree witht he review written by Philly Mag, except for the remark about the service being flighty. Never. The service is always impeccable. Posted by Dru: Aug. August 6th, 2009 at 10:28 AM

I've eaten at Sovana Bistro many times, and every time it has been wonderful. The entrees are reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. The staff is curteous and service driven. Sovana is classy without being pretentious. There is only really one word to say: GO!!! Posted by Apryl: May. May 18th, 2009 at 2:08 PM

I have eaten there many times(over 500)and have never had a bad meal. Their menu is ever changing w/the seasons and it's exciting when they put an old favorite back on. Pasta dishes with homemades are to die for and Sovanna salad and soup of the day is a nice meal too. I could go on and on, but make sure you try one of their pizza's also.Staff is very personal, effient, and knowledgeable. Make it one of your favorites. Posted by Paul: May. May 11th, 2009 at 4:40 PM
