Sagami serves the meat-and-potatoes of the sushi world. Not literally, of course, but don’t go to this bustling, low-ceilinged, darkly lit BYOB expecting to find, say, spotted sardine just flown in from the Sea of Japan that morning, or some crazy maki roll combination that might cause an authentic sushi chef to commit hara-kiri. Instead, expect happy-go-lucky owner and head sushi chef Shigeru Fukuyoshi to cut pristine slices of the favorites—yellowtail, tuna, flounder, scallop, sea bass. Each piece possesses a distinct flavor and impeccable texture that bear witness to Fukiyoshi’s 27-plus years of experience in choosing and preparing the best specimens.

I've been to Sagami several times and I still don't understand what the big fuss is about. The portions of sushi are significantly smaller tha many other South Jersey sushi places, the prices are significantly higher for mediocre sushi, and the service and atmosphere is much below par. Save your money and go to one of the Mikado restaurants.

If you are going to make the trip to New Jersey, do yourself a favor and drive past Sagami to Oh, Yoko on Route 70! Unlike Sagami, the seats are comfortable, and the food is out-of-this-world amazing. While Sagami is good, Oh, Yoko is unforgetable! I am not alone in my opinion. See: www.yelp.com/biz/oh-yoko-cherry-hill. I have no affiliation with either restaurant. I am just an enthusiastic great-food lover who wants to get the work out!
