Profile

Who knew that czars, Bolsheviks and Stalin could be kinda sexy? Restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow, that’s who. His A.C. Red Square oozes with red velvet everything, offers curtained “intimate dining” booths and happily boasts about its rendezvous-fostering unisex bathrooms. Combine that remotely Russian lounge-y vibe (especially after 10 p.m. and on Saturdays, aka “Siberian night,” when the restaurant actually is a lounge) with a pretty tasty, if only partly Russian, menu—beef stroganoff with peas over strozapretti pasta is yummy—caviar blinis, and a martini at the 60-foot bar, and who knows what the night might hold. We’re guessing it’ll be a trip to the vodka “locker” for shots—try their seasonal infusions—and a photo of you and your pals, decked out in loaner furs and military coats, cheers-ing to “Back in the U.S.S.R.”
