Oyster House

Profile
This Philadephia institution is restored to all its grandeur thanks to Sam Mink, whose father ran the original Sansom Street Oyster hours for decades. Mink has added modern touches, a bevy of raw bar and cooked seafood options (think soft shell crab and snapper turtle soup). Chat it up with barkeep Katie Loeb, who has brought her updated-meets-classic cocktail sensibility to the liquid menu with oyster shooters (that come in either horseradish infused tequila or hot pepper and cilantro infused vodka) and local taps.

Being from Bufalo, we never get to eat great FRESH seafood. We came into town and wanted the best and were sent here. Food was extraordinary, oysters tasted like the sea, snapping turtle soup was better than I could have imagined and the lobster roll was huge and tasty. Wait was only 15 minutes with no reservation. You won't be disappointed.

Went for after work drinks and oysters with several friends. Loved both the Happy Hour special oysters and the sampler platter and the third dozen was just for me. Soup delish, shrimp yummy and the bartender was sweet and not hovering.

Stopped in this place for some cocktails and apps shortly after it reopened and loved it. decided to have go there for my Birthday back in August and the Mink Family was so helpful and provided a pre-fixe menu. Based on their clam bake and sides, which for a large party, it was great. There was more food then we could eat and everyone loved it. Even turned a few friends on to Oysters. Would definitely go back!

I hate to say how good this restaurant is - because it may be too crowded next time I want to visit.
Good Luck to the Mink family. You deserve to be the best.

We went for the buck-a-shucks and stayed for a delish dinner. Friends had raved about the lobster roll - and we had to agree it was fab. But even better was the knowledgeable server, who directed us to the best oysters for the day. Perfectly briny and creamy...we slurped them up. The classics are there, too. I grew up on the NE Clam Chowder - and I liked the new version, too. Don't miss the bar - or watching the shuckers perform. Our 7 y.o. son delighted in the mussels and the steamers. We will be back....for sure!
