Monsu offers an edible history of Sicilian culture, stretching back to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Owner Peter McAndrews and his chef de cuisine, Damien Messina, dig deep into that past to find a cuisine that spans centuries, yet still feels new. The most successful dishes are those that play to McAndrews's strength--ample, filling, traditional presentations--but the kitchen also does well with somewhat riskier flavor pairings, like a very spicy-route lasagne dotted with sausage, raisins and scents of cinnamon and cocoa.
