The hip-i-fication of Passyunk Square continues with Lucky 13, a narrow, dimly lit locals bar recently transformed into an updated (but still narrow, dimly lit) gastropub. Veteran area barkeep Clark Newman is the joint’s new owner; he recruited chef Ben Johnson from Plough & the Stars to serve up an ambitious roster of happy-hour-through-late-night eats. So far, we’ve sampled and love the coriander-touched bluefish, minty black bean and quinoa salad, vegetarian risotto and tempura shrimp, along with takes on neighborhood classics — like a chicken cutlet that’s broiled and sliced into bite-size morsels, and a “deconstructed” meatball sandwich, with meatballs and gravy on the side. Insider tip: The bar recently started serving a boozy noon-to-4-p.m. brunch on Saturday and Sunday for sleepers-in. Highlights are hangover-curing egg-and-sausage sandwiches and $3 mimosas.
