Profile

With its marble floors, heavily framed portraits, breathtaking wine list and tuxedoed European service, La Famiglia might be called the Le Bec-Fin of the city’s Italian restaurants. Sumptuous as the setting is, it’s hard to justify $26 for a bowl of gnocchi, no matter how ethereal; $36 for a whole baked fish; $82 for rack of lamb for two; or $15 for a scoop of apple cobbler from the dessert cart. But people do: The dining rooms are nearly filled even during Sunday-night dinners. If money is no object, by all means pull the cork on a Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, a Vietti Barolo Le Rocche, or an amarone from Masi.

Why is it that this "stalwart", from the golden years of the Phiily fine dining scene, is criticized for it's traditional personality. Is it necessary for a restaurant to be hip, eclectic or buzzworthy to be worth a visit? This charmingly elegant Italian Ristorante executes Neopolitan cuisine effortlessly. It's timeless attention to detail is a breath of fresh air. Food, wine service and ambiance are the focus, and isn't that why we dine out.

Great ambiance, service and amazing dishes like risotto del pescatore or medallions of veal. They also have a huge wine list and a nice private room in the Wine cellar. highly recommended!
