Profile

There can be a massive wait at Jones—on a Saturday evening, as much as two hours for a table. Sounds horrible, right? Wrong. And this is one of the keys to Stephen Starr’s success—his restaurants always have bars that make the wait for tables part of the fun. Sample a funky cocktail, and comment on the decor: “It looks like the Brady Bunch’s living room” is what every diner seems to say at least once while gazing at the faux-sandstone walls and fireplace. The affordable menu is just as nostalgic. Get the macaroni and cheese; tuna tacos; fried chicken and waffles; Cobb salad; or roast turkey Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. If the kitsch becomes too much, skip the Tang sorbet.
