Johnny Brenda’s, named for longtime owner and 1940s boxer John Imbrenda, is now run by Standard Tap’s Paul Kimport and William Reed. Small tears in the red-and-white-striped linoleum floor still offer glimpses of vibrant tiling beneath, and a hole in the dark wood paneling reveals the original tin walls matching the ceiling. But the flames in the open kitchen, where flank steak and marinated octopus are grilled, distract from these flaws.
