Profile

Upstairs from Govinda’s deep-green and polished-wood dining room is a space for Bhagavad Gita classes. That Hindu text, along with the study of yoga, inspired Govinda’s chef to eat vegetarian—and then to share the cuisine with the masses. Franklin Cameron’s mostly vegan menu includes vegetarian standards such as samosas and three-bean chili as well as the peculiarly named “Zucchini Detroit,” grilled zucchini and squash seasoned with basil and served over turmeric-infused rice. You’ll also find “Congo Asparagus” (asparagus tips sautéed in a ginger-lemon sauce with roasted cashews), “Hawaiian Supreme” (veggies in sweet-and-sour sauce) and “San Francisco Hills Kofta” (vegetarian meatballs in a marinara sauce with pasta).
