We didn’t know what to expect from Casona, the Nuevo Cuban BYOB that opened in Collingswood recently. Partner Larry Grillo had also helmed Tierra Colombiana (which we love) and Mixto (which we don’t). But one taste of the habana maduro here (fried plantains topped with Swiss cheese and citrus-marinated pork), and we were already talking about coming back to eat on the wraparound porch. It doesn’t hurt that the waiters look like they just stepped off of romance-novel covers. Yum.

Waited 45 minutes past reservation time to be seated. And then the only thing that had changed was our location. We did receive a drink menu and a generous glass of tap water. Saw no wait staff or even a menu. When my wife went to the front desk to inquire she was rudely blown off by a woman who claimed to own the establishment. We got up and left and when I confronted this woman she was short and rude when dealing with me. I may have gotten loud and her response was to tell me to leave and she even called the police. When I asked why people who arrived after us had been seated she said there reservtions were before ours. Curious since we had arrived exactly on time and these folks arrived 10 and 15 mins later. Don't waste your time or money. Stay away.

Saturday night. Waited 30 minutes past reservation. Place was uncomfortably loud. Server was slow and unattentive. Of the four of us 2 found the food very good and 2 found it less than expected. Probably would not go again.

we live in collingswood, and have been to casona many times. always a pleasure -and they have just updated their menu. latin food is a great chang of pace, and they have other items for steak abd potatoes crowd.- we like the lechon, tropical salad, and filet mignon. the tres leches dessert is not to be missed. great to share. gluten free items.
