It’s the vintage vibe that Stephen Starr’s latest steakhouse gets most right. The sexy design, complete with twinkling chandeliers and plush leather booths, could bring out the Veronica Lake in anybody. Some standards are inconsistent (the Caesar salad lacks the bold garlic and anchovy that make the combo iconic), but simple, recognizable dishes like the crabcake appetizer — a perfect blend of crabmeat, mayo and bread crumbs — add to the experience.

Our foursome dined at Butcher and Singer on Sept 27, 2009. Our fare ranged from fish to steak. Quality, preparation, and presentation were all in the 8.0 to 9.0 range. Service was excellent . . .very attentive and helpful. Wine list, ok, but factored at 4-1 vs retail. Good overall, but pricey.

I have been here once before with a large group of 20+ people (ordering from a 4-course pre-fixed menu) and was really impressed! I wanted to come back to a more intimate evening with a date & order off the menu to see if the experience would be as memorable. Butcher & Singer did NOT disappoint! Everything was nothing short of fantastic from the decor, the service, the ambiance & most importantly the food. We sat in one of their half moon sweetheart table booths (that line the perimeter of the floor) and along with our intimate conversations, were entertained by the inner workings of the restaurant staff buzzing around the the floor from our "perimeter" view. The lighting was perfect. Dimly lit and very romantic. My date & I split the crab cake appetizer, the wedge salad & each indulged in a medium+ prepared Delmonico steak over a bottle of red. One of the best steaks I have simply ever enjoyed. We then finished with an espresso along with the baked alaska dessert which was a real treat. (Expect to pay about $100/person) All in all a tremendous dining experience and one I would highly recommend and definitely go back to.

In town from Toronto, all round great experience in a beautiful location. Greeting, introduction to the place by the bartender, service all top notch. Handled our large group well, excellent wine choices by staff, steak and sides were all fabulous. If you have the wallet, well worth the visit

The food here was amazing but if you are lucky to be served by the Young Gunner then your night will be complete. Without a doubt the sexiest and most knowledgeable server in the whole of Philly> Enjoy !!
