Since we're already big fans of Clifton Heights' Clam Tavern, with its cheap seafood platters, gigantic fish tank and all-the-time $5 Beefeater martinis, when we heard that owner Tony Blanche was picking up a second bar/restaurant across the street, we were intrigued. While there's no aquatic life in this bustling (read: loud) spot, there are perfectly crispy made-to-order jalapeño-cheddar cornmeal waffles, which, when topped with one of the menu's many homespun proteins (meatloaf, roast turkey, BBQ pork), turn out to be pretty killer winter-comfort food. And hell, you've got to love a place that lists Italian long hots as a side dish.
