Profile

Call it a restaurant renaissance: Phoenixville’s blooming with eateries these days. And though chef Robert Bahm’s new place inside a meandering 18th-century farmhouse is a little removed from the town’s burgeoning restaurant row, none of those restaurants have his watermelon gazpacho. (“And I’ve got parking,” he adds.) The refreshing soup wasn’t the only highlight: A pan-seared chicken breast was crispy-skinned, and a corn polenta was light as air. The few hitches—undercooked risotto, soupy berry “gratin”—detracted little from the overall charm; we’ll be back to try this upscale BYO for brunch.

Excellent food!!!! I have eaten at Becca's many times and have never been disappointed. I don't know where this one reviewer ate, but in my opionion there is obviously something wrong with a person who writes a review about a restaurant they have never been to before claiming it has gone downhill. How would you know? What are you comparing it to? And about getting sick? Really? I ate the same thing on the same night - lobster bisque and the vanilla butter lobster and was fine. It was delicious! Maybe this person was sick before they walked in! Did they think of that? Sorry just makes me furious when someone writes such a review without merit! This is a great restaurant for lunch, dinner and brunch - believe me I have eaten there for each one - and I have never been disappointed! I love the fact that they use fresh, local, organic ingredients and they even make their own bread now. I was there for dinner a few weeks ago and they were so busy they ran out of bread! As someone who eats out often and at many fine restaurants in NY and CA I can honestly say that this restaurant is in that caliber. Try it for yourself.

Horrible Obviously has gone downhill. The lobster bisque caused both me and my girlfriend food poisoning. She vomited within 20 minutes of eating it. I got sick about 40 minutes after eating it. The hostess witnessed her vomiting outside while I was paying the bill. We gave them the benefit of the doubt that it might have been something else until we got home and she vomited again and I then got ill. When we called to report to them that the bisque was probably bad, it fell on deaf ears. I was told that they would call me the following day, they did not. This was all after I sent my incredibly overcooked lobster with burnt vanilla butter sauce, burnt vegetables with rock hard potato chunks back after I ate only two of the claws. When I pulled the maybe 5 oz tail out it was obvious i was in the some of the same overcooked lobster and I had to send it back. Poor service, food that made us sick, and likely a warning that went completely unheeded, Someone else was bound to end up getting sick from that bisque as well. If you sit in the back room with the glass door you get a view of snow salt bags with a light shinning in your face and the room is so live (no effect sound damping that you cannot have a good conversation) certainly NOT recommended.

Brunch was fresh, tasty fare and special orders did not upset them. Omelettes, fresh squeezed juice, warm pastries, and eggs bene were all served with a smile.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to dine at Becca's. Our meal was amazing. The restaurant is charming and perfect for a night out with friends or a romantic evening with someone special. We started with the yellow/red pepper salad, the maytag blue salad, and the shrimp appetizer. All were fresh and shared an excellent blend of flavors. For dinner, we all chose the veal chop special which was served with a truffle rissotto. The veal was cooked medium, to perfection. We then had to sample the deserts at the recommendation of our server. We had the berry gratin, grilled pineapple, and the chocolate cake. All were fabulous. The menu has many great options to choose from without being overwhelming with too many choices. The variety is perfect and the prices were very reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. I would recommend this restaurant and will be back to try it again and again. Great job chef Robert!
