#31 on the 2008 Philly Mag 50

Sang Kee has buffed up since its modest beginnings more than 25 years ago. The menu, though, has barely changed, and that’s okay. Classics like the namesake Peking duck — which arrives in two stages: breast slices with crunchy skin attached for stuffing inside warm pancakes are followed by stir-fried vegetables with shredded duck meat — don’t need updating. Neighboring restaurants may have larger menus or more elaborate preparations, but Sang Kee’s roasted meats and noodle dishes can’t be beat.
