Video: Sampan Sneak Peek

Last week, chef Michael Schulson opened his first Philly restaurant, Sampan, on 13th Street. We got some time with the chef before he served his first meal.

I braved the cold weather to check out Sampan last night, and I was very pleased. We tried a little bit of everything, and it was all delicious. My recommendations are: Edamame Dumplings, "Philly Cheesesteak", Short Ribs, Crispy Brussel Sprouts (never in a million years would I have thought that brussel sprouts could be absolutely delicious!). The wine list was very decently priced, and I had a great glass of Pinot Noir. The service was fabulous, as was the whole atmosphere. Great 80s music, and you MUST check out the bathrooms: you hear movie sound bites...stay in there a while and see if you can name them. A fun night, the price was right, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for great food.
fabulous experience

COMMENT:
I dined with some friends at Sampan last night and could not believe that the restaurant was only a week old. The food, atmosphere and service were all outstanding. This place is going to be a must go to place for the food and to be seen. It has all the elements to make it a hit and I can't wait to go back soon.
