Masano: Matt Levin's New NoLibs Restaurant

From Lacroix to NoLibs: a rock ’n’ roll chef’s daring next act

Matt Levin, the über-chef who revivified the staid Lacroix restaurant at the Rittenhouse Hotel with daring tasting menus and cutting-edge techniques, has been cooking up a new restaurant since he stepped down as Lacroix’s executive chef back in December. This week, he plans to sign a lease for a new spot in Northern Liberties with celeb partner and Philadelphia Eagle Big Jon Runyan.

Levin plans to name the new eatery Masano (the first two letters of his own first name and those of each of his sons — Sam and Noah). The food, says Levin, is Lacroix tasting menu meets gastropub: a high-low culinary mashup that will take the form of a year-round restaurant week — $35 for three plates. And with all bottles of wine priced under $50, the bar tab should also be easy to swallow.

The space itself will feel like an abandoned warehouse, says Levin. It’s an appropriate choice for this former warehouse district. He’s even bringing in local graffiti artists for some gritty wall art. It sure sounds like a better match for this tattooed rock-and-roll chef than the froufrou confines of Rittenhouse Square ever were. Look for Masano to open its doors in late summer.

good luck to matt levin, he will need it. as a former co worker of his i know first hand he doesnt have the chops to work around the clock like he will need to do to make it successful. he was a no show exec. chef 90 % of the time so he could hang with his buddies at local sports games. he is a pretender with alrge p.r. people. all about himself and not about the staff. so i hope he has a staff that will cover his ass when he is not there. and his food cost alone will bury the place. so as he is comfy, he will lay back and not care.

Sounds like someone is a little upset?? Well, now that Levin is gone let's see what YOU can do. Funny how quickly people forget where they came from and who helped get them there. Best of luck to Levin.

The comments made by the first post are not at all far from truth. As a former ee of Lacroix myself, I've witnessed such behavior regularly!! Great guy, though.

Greeting. I'm struck by the insidious, computer-driven tendency to take things out of the domain of muscular activity and put them into the domain of mental activity. The transfer is not paying off. Sure, muscles are unreliable, but they represent several million years of accumulated finesse.I am from Uruguay and also now'm speaking English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "Producing too little thyroid hormone hypothyroidism or too much webmd home community message boards general health thyroid disorders - support group."Thanks :D.
