Mounded with frosting and cute as can be, cupcakes bring out the kid in us. This May, partners Christopher Rice and Richard Talens will open Cupmakes — a cupcake-only bakeshop that will let patrons customize every aspect of their treat (yes, especially the icing) — at 520A South Second Street, near South Street. The usual flavors will be represented (chocolate, vanilla, red velvet), but there will also be gourmet options like the chili-infused Chocolate Satin Heat and a Bananas Foster cupcake, topped with flambéed bananas spiked with Sailor Jerry rum. (Ed: YUM.) Crave something even more creative? Rice and Talens plan to unveil a line of savory cupcakes. (Recipes aren’t finalized yet, but think lunch, not dessert.) The grand opening is scheduled for May 15th, but keep your eyes peeled for a soft opening a few weeks earlier.
