On Monday, June 29th Brauhaus Schmitz will celebrate its sixth birthday with a fundraising party to benefit the Friends of South Street Police Mini Station. For a $20 minimum donation, you can enjoy a beer or wine from an open bar and buffet. The best part? The buffet will be a preview of Whetstone Tavern, the anticipated spot from Brauhaus chef Jeremy Nolen and owner Doug Hager.
Restaurants and bars are working hard to open this summer. And we’ve pulled together some photos that we’ve spotted that document that progress.
Passyunk Post snapped a shot of the upcoming Pub on Wolf. The bar at Front and Wolf has received a large handpainted sign that lends some character to the corner location.
Over at Robert's Market Report, Bob Lipkind snapped a shot of the just redone 12th Street Cantina in the Reading Terminal Market. It's a big improvement from the prior look.
Brauhaus Schmitz chef Jeremy Nolen is opening a restaurant of his own. Whetstone Restaurant will be a casual American bar and restaurant that will take over the former Tapestry space at 5th and Bainbridge. Nolen will be the chef at Whetstone as well as Brauhaus. He’s joined in the venture by his Brauhaus Schmitz compatriots, Doug and Kelly Hager.
Nolen says that Whetstone, which will feature 20 or so drafts plus a wines and brown liquors will open this summer.
The bar will be a welcome addition to Queen Village, which supported Tapestry but saw the popular bar close anyway. Some have suggested the corner, which was also Adsum and Coquette, is cursed but we have a feeling that Whetstone will be a winner.
