This week saw two big food competitions go down in Philadelphia. On Saturday, Philadelphia’s food truck scene was saluted with the Vendy Awards. The “Oscars of food trucks” named Foolish Waffles the best food truck; SeoulFull Philly as the rookie of the year; and Underground Donuts for Best Dessert.
Then on Sunday, the Burger Brawl took over the parking lot adjacent to Xfinity Live as 54 restaurants competed for the title of best burger. There were three awards on the line, the Judges Choice, the People’s Choice and new this year, a cocktail competition.
If you’re looking for a fun, free way to celebrate the beginning of allergy season (or what some people call, “spring”), on Saturday, May 2, head down to Center City for the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival. There will be a fashion show, beauty booths, live music, and most importantly food demonstrations and cocktail lounges.
The Garces Group is still very much in expansion mode, and Jose Garces announced this week that he’s bringing a Village Whiskey to the Shaw neighborhood of Washington D.C. The bourbon bar will open at 920 N Street Northwest (Rear/Blagden Alley NW). The space will be 4,459 square feet. That’s just about four times the size as the original just off of Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. The location is on Blagden Alley and right next store to another Philadelphia export, La Colombe.
Washington D.C.’s Village Whiskey will open in the fall of 2016. Garces’ first Washington DC restaurant, Rural Society opened in July of 2014.
