Foobooz’s Arthur Etchells may have been underwhelmed when New Belgium came to town in September but I feel like everywhere I go, there’s another bar having some kind of New Belgium event, and seeing Fat Tire on a tap list has become a regular occurrence (not that I’m complaining). While their beer is solid, I couldn’t help but wonder, “what’s the big deal with them?”
For the 23rd year, Tom Peters is throwing a holiday celebration of beer, food and (more) beer at Monk’s Cafe. If you’re serious about your beer (particularly those Belgians), this one is already on your calendars. But for those of you out there who let it slip their minds this year, here are the particulars.
It’s happening Tuesday, December 8 (yeah, a school night), and will feature seven courses and eight Christmas beers. A ticket will run you $125 per person (that includes tax and tip), but you should hurry because there were only a few left as of yesterday–which presumably means that there are even fewer left today. You can call Monk’s at 215-545-7005 to secure your spot right now.
We also happen to have the menu and beer pairings below. So if you need to be convinced, you know what to do.
For seven years now we’ve polled bartenders, beer reps, booze writers and professional drinkers of all stripes, and asked them to pick their most-loved bars in the area. We then add our own favorites, do a little cocktail-napkin math and come up with the 50 Best Bars in Philadelphia. This year the Best Bars list includes dives, gastropubs, cocktail lounges and even an awesome little spot in Port Richmond.
This year’s list features a new number one bar, but that’s far from the only interesting tidbit on the list.
