Just about every restaurant worth its salt has is celebrating local tomatoes with at least an heirloom tomato salad nowadays. But a couple of restaurants are going to the next level by creating whole menus with the tomato as the centerpiece.
Meritage is offering a special tomato tasting menu from Friday, August 28th through Friday, September 4th. The four-course dinner includes lobster with tomato conserva to a tomato sorbet with lemon biscotti.
At Jamonera, the Midtown Village Spanish restaurant is celebrating Lo Tomatina, Spain's huge tomato throwing festival. On Sunday, August 30th and Monday, August 31st, Jamonera is offering a 10 dish, tomato tapas dinner for $45 per person. The local tomato menu will feature everything from tomato gazpacho to tomato sofrito with chorizo.
Each of the restaurants will be offering special deals on rosé wine and food for all three nights.
Barbuzzo is offering 23 rosé wines from seven countries. Jamonera is offering a rosé happy hour plus a special Spanish seafood dish with a full bottle of wine for $30 per person. Little Nonna’s has a Calabrian BBQ menu that’s paired with a carafe of gagliopo rosé and Lolita is doing DIY Baja tacos teamed with rosé sangria or margaritas.
The list of places to get a late-afternoon snack or drink continues to grow this summer, and we’re certainly not complaining.
Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran are opening the outdoor seating areas and the bars at Jamonera and Lolita in Midtown Village for their new summer happy hour menus on Sunday through Thursday from 5 PM – 6:30 PM.
Drinks will range from $4-$6, and all sorts of tapas will be available for $5. It may not be Granada (the city that offers free tapas with every drink), but, then again, it’s not far off.
Still unconvinced? Then check out the menu below for a little motivation.
