Amy and Haavard, who is from Norway, met at the University of Maryland when Haavard was in the United States to study engineering. Their spring wedding at the John James Audubon Center incorporated both Haavard’s Norwegian heritage and Amy’s backgrounds in both art (she’s a graphic designer) and animal behavior (which she studied) by letting nature set the scene at the outdoor event. Guests were treated to the groom’s Kolsch-style homebrew at the cocktail hour, followed by a reception in the open-air pavilion, where tables decorated with mismatched vases of wildflowers and vintage apothecary jars filled with nesting materials created what Amy calls a “Victorian naturalist display.” The result was a handcrafted, wonderfully unique celebration not soon forgotten by their guests.
The couple takes a stroll outside the John James Audubon Center after their vows. The bride wore a Watters strapless lace gown decorated in hand-rolled silk taffeta roses, “The perfect dress for an outdoor wedding,” she says.
