That’s not the case in the two zip codes assigned to West Chester. Our search this week turned up 19 homes for sale in zip codes 19380 and 19382. Some of them were the sort of new construction homes you find popping up all over the region, but we also found several homes with distinct personality and character, including some Victorian charmers right in the heart of the Chester County seat itself.

Submitted for your approval: those two plus a more contemporary example.

29 Dean St. (above) | 5 beds, 2 baths, square feet unavailable, $525,000

This impeccably maintained home in the middle of West Chester Borough sits amid lush greenery out front and in back. Inside, it boasts classic formal spaces for entertaining and an updated kitchen with Corian countertops, modern appliances, and under-cabinet lighting. Three outside entrances make getting in and out easy, and its location puts you just steps away from the shops and restaurants of West Chester’s charming downtown.

608 S. High St. | 4 beds, 2 full, 2 half baths, approx. 2,600 square feet*, $495,000

This Victorian twin lies south of downtown and next to the West Chester University campus. Like the home on Dean Street, this one has also been lovingly maintained; its hardwood floors sparkle and its rooms come alive with color. The kitchen is all-new with the latest of everything, and the bathrooms received attractive makeovers too, including a true full tile hall bath. A spacious front porch lets you take in the passing scene, while a skylit back porch looks out over an attractively landscaped rear yard and patio.

*The listing contains no square footage data; the owner states that the home has “at least 2,600 square feet” of interior space.

930 Westtown Rd., Westtown Township | 5 beds, 3 full, 1 half baths, 4,076 square feet, $489,000

This original contemporary home was designed by Cope & Lippincott Architects, a firm that specialized in Quaker meetinghouses, for the religious chair of the Westtown School, located just down the road. Distinctive features of this home include a glass-enclosed potter’s studio off the dining room, a two-story foyer spanning the home’s width, a two-story living room and adjacent family room with wood-burning stove, and access to the wooded grounds from all of the common living spaces. The master suite upstairs boasts its own deck, a dressing area with three closets and a small balcony overlooking the living room. Two more bedrooms are on the upper floor, and the main floor has two bedrooms that share a bath.
