Nothing is for certain just yet, but yesterday’s presentation of a bill that would rezone a site currently taken up by vacant buildings for a park space was definitely a step in that direction.

According to PlanPhilly’s Jared Brey, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson introduced the bill, which paves the way for the proposed Carpenter Green, a project by the South of South Neighborhood Association. SOSNA envisions the land as “green recreation space.”

Additional help for the project, Brey adds, is coming from the Goldenberg Group, the developer responsible for the nearby Carpenter Square townhomes, who is pledging $50,000 to the project.

Brey writes the Graduate Hospital parcels are owned by the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority, but that SOSNA has been managing the site thanks to an “urban-gardening agreement with the PRA.”
