Extraordinary Daroff-Designed Residence Built for Larry Magid

The Bauhaus-influenced Society Hill home is a marvel.

The listing for this home calls it “Society Hill’s very own Bauhaus,” and indeed the double-wide (51 feet) modern home does have a bit of that Berlin/Tel Aviv feel.

The home was formerly owned by legendary music promoter Larry Magid (Electric Factory; Live Aid and Live 8; LiveNation), who sold it for $1.5 million in 2010, just a few months after he left his position as LiveNation’s chairman. (The house was built on top of a church graveyard; during construction, human remains were found, creating a flurry of forensic curiosity.)

Designed for Magid by Daroff Design, the house has sidelights by famed artist Ray King, who created Philadelphia’s Beacons on Broad Street. Additional light comes in through skylights and a three-story glass wall that overlooks a private garden.

Perks include a media room with a hidden screen and projector; an elevator (which appears to have an art installation in it now, but that might be some cleaning supplies); tigerwood floors; built-ins aplenty; two south-facing terraces; cherry-shelved library with adjacent wet bar; a gas fireplace; his-and-her dressing rooms; and a dual vanity with transparent glass sinks.

The seller is also the realtor.
