In case anyone ever doubted the need for LGBT-specific housing for seniors, the John C. Anderson LGBT Friendly Senior Apartments, opening in January at 12th and Spruce streets, puts those doubts to rest. From the start, the buzz in the community was high; more than 100 potential residents lined up and waited outside the leasing office at the William Way Center on the first day applications were available.

Now comes word that the building is no longer taking applications for the lower-income-level apartments because there are already multiple applicants for each. But there are still apartments left for seniors 62 and above who make between $28,000 to $33,000 per year.
