Zillow Launches New Tool to Cross-Reference Homes for Sale and Local Schools

Zillow is catching up, in so many ways. The online real estate portal recently added Zillow Rentals to its quiver (which competitor Trulia already had) and now it’s got a new tool for combining a real estate search with information about neighborhood schools–their boundaries and their ratings. The assessments come from GreatSchools, which ranks institutions by standardized test scores.

The schools can be filtered by type (public, charter and private) and level (elementary, middle and high school). Sale home results can be limited to certain school attendance boundaries or performance results.

Inman Real Estate quoted a statement from Amy Bohutinsky, Zillow’s chief marketing officer:

“Two of the most important things homebuyers tell us they look for in a new home is affordability within their price range and quality of schools for their children…”

If you are a resident who lives outside of Philadelphia County, please enjoy this tool. If you live within Philadelphia County, we’re not sure the tool can oblige you these days. Perhaps if they had rankings for understaffing or lack of supplies, or which school will do the least harm to your child — then city residents could get on board.
