I’m looking forward to seeing how Cole does in our 6 division games against sub-par LTs. He’s been horrible at sacking the QB over the past few seasons, but I demand to see a lot of knocked down, roughed up, sacked, and/or injured Romo / RG3 / Eli at the hands of the Eagles D.
I would expect bigger things from the DTs and Barwin. Both Williams and Smith are well above-average at LT. But the interior of all 3 teams lines leave a lot to be desired. I pray to the FSM Curry gets to line up against Doug Free this year
Williams didn’t look above average while he was getting abused by Seattle last year. Smith is still the guy who got owned by Babin.
To be fair, you could line a blocking dummy up against Doug Free and he’d still get beat.
I’m still very skeptical about both Cole and Graham transitioning successfully to OLB. It’s similar to going to Home Depot and buying the latest gadget like a screwdriver-wrench. It sounds great as with one tool you can drive screws and tighten a bolt. But in reality all you bought was a crappy screwdriver and a crappy wrench.
If Barwin goes down, we are in big, big trouble. He might be the most important player on the D to stay healthy this year.
I think the issue is trying to project either Cole or Graham into that “SAM” role in the 4-3 under. Both are more suited to the “predator” role where the QB is rushed 90% of the time. I 100% agree that Barwin is the only guy on this roster capable of playing the SAM role and any time he missed would be devastating to their efforts.
Jason Babin was really good at one thing, well two, if you count whining.
barwin and cole need to get pressure on the qb. ive seen graham do it and curry. why are barwin and cole not getting past the olineman into qbs face. def not liking these two so far. I know curry is not a olb. but hes a push rusher who is being effective. barwin and cole need to be too.
Barwin and Cole have been invisible.
Barwin, outside of one season, was never really a pass rush guy. His role in this D is to anchor run D and short pass coverage on that side of the D with occasional blitzes. Cole is a bigger concern.
ive been focusing on them during games. like not even watching the play and olineman are stonewalling them and they aren’t budging them. barwin more than cole tho. cole plays the run well and goes all out. barwin im not certain about. put graham there and improve that run d with him there
It’s freaking preseason!! We’re all vanilla until week 1. Relax.
That is true, but you’d like to see guys win a few more 1 on 1 type battles.
Ive heard that argument about the defense for like the last 4 years.
It doesnt matter what scheme is being ran or how vanilla preseason is. If you are getting physically over-matched, you are getting physically over-matched.
The fact is, until I see otherwise, all of our LBs struggle to do anything once a body is on them.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here based on what I’ve seen and say that they are primarily playing contain when they rush out of the base defense. It helped collapse the pocket, among other things. As for nickel/sub packages, I think they can do more, but I did see pressure. I’m not certain it wasn’t by design on Friday. *shrugs*
If you know what pre season is about, you would know you don’t show everything you got. Think about it work on your weaknesses and improve imagine offensives worrying about KENDRICK coming up the middle and not COLE from the outside. This defense will get it together give them a chance.
This is the second time the Eagles have asked one of our most productive players to try something new, and Cole just does it. It’s a steep learning curve but really pulling for him for his success and selfishly so our D has a good year. The guy is a true Eagle – doesn’t bitch, just does his job.
Chris McCoy is a SAM and a good one. Same size as Conner and a little quicker. He’s got the coach’s attention.
