Alex Cross: Rob Cohen has had one strange career. Back in the 70s, he produced Mahogany and The Wiz. In the 80s, Witches of Eastwick and Light of Day, with Michael J. Fox. And then he moved onto directing everything from Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story to Fast and the Furious to The Rat Pack. Now he’s directing Tyler Perry in a genre jumper for the actor, who is playing the title character in this action thriller based on the James Patterson books. Opens everywhere Friday. Details

Fiona Apple: I was never all that much of a Fiona Apple fan for most of her career. Oh, I enjoyed “Criminal” and “Extraordinary Machine” when I heard them every so often. But she didn’t really do much for me. But then I saw her live earlier this year in the Best of Philly-winning Music Box at the Borgata and became an instant fan thanks to her chills-inducing performance.
