Best of Philly 2007 Outdoor Dining, Suburbs

Gullifty's

The sheer high walls, huge canopies and breezy bar that define Gullifty’s patio make it less parking-lot-in-Bryn-Mawr and more like a tropical vacation. But beyond the sunny vibe is a unique concept, a special “Gaarden” menu focusing on the large grill occupying half the space behind the bar. Backyard favorites like hot dogs, chicken breast and burgers are well-charred and served either straight up, with cheese, or tossed in a house-made BBQ sauce or mango chutney. The super-meaty ribs are a standout, slathered in that BBQ sauce and easily digested with a cold beer. The food is solid but unfussy, essential summer tastes for both urbanites who don’t have a grill and suburbanites who don’t feel like cleaning theirs.
