5 Favorite Things with BVTLive! Founder & Jellyroll Band Leader Kurt Titchenell

Kurt Titchenell

Ever since he first picked up a trombone at the age of 15, music has been a way of life for Kurt Titchenell. In 1980, as a student at West Chester University, he founded the now award-winning (and highly sought after) wedding band Jellyroll, and has since created an empire of talented musicians with BVTLive! (formerly known as Brandywine Valley Talent).

“We originally performed at concerts and nightclubs with a great deal of success, but when I started planning my own wedding, I saw that there was an opportunity, so Jellyroll began performing at weddings too,” he tells us. “After Jellyroll’s schedule filled up, we started a couple other bands; I then quit my day job and started Brandywine Valley Talent, as I was inspired by helping make our clients’ dreams come true at their weddings, while helping so many of my fellow musicians obtain great work.”

We caught up with Titchenell to talk about his favorite no-fail wedding songs, the best concert he’s ever been to and what it’s like to perform at the White House. Here’s what he had to say:

Favorite universal, no-fail song that always brings the crowd to the dance floor The classic choice would be “September” by Earth Wind & Fire and for something more contemporary, “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.

Favorite wedding venue for a dance party Vie has a great stage with a large dance floorperfect for a large band!

Favorite concert you’ve ever been to Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band at the Tower Theater.

Favorite reception moment you look forward to at each wedding After the first dance, we like to open the dance floor to set the tone for the evening.  The bride and groom loosen up now that they’ve completed their formal first dance, and they have a chance to celebrate buy dancing with family and friends. It is my favorite time!

Favorite performance you’ve ever done My favorite performance was The Congressional Ball at The White House where, after a formal reception and photo session with President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, we performed for members of Congress, Supreme Court Justices, their guests and other dignitaries. Performing in the East Room of the White House is truly an amazing honor and experience.
