5 Favorite Things With Bridal Hairstylist Amanda D’Andrea

Amanda D'Andrea

Amanda D’Andrea

Bucks County-based stylist Amanda D’Andrea has been doing hair, as we say, for going on 20 years—with the last half of that taken up in large part by Philadelphia brides.

While she was working at a salon as a Master Stylist, Amanda found that her true passion was formal styling; whether it was an updo or a cascade of curls, gussying up girls for a special occasion became her favorite thing, and she now works full time as an onsite hair stylist—primarily on the mornings of local brides’ Big Days. (Her name might even sound familiar to you—you can hardly look at a bridal blog these days without seeing her work underneath the veils of Philly brides! Take a look at more of her styles here.)

We caught up with Amanda to see what she’s into right now, from the style she says looks good on everyone to the product she sprays on all her brides’ styles before they walk out the door.

Favorite universally pretty way for a bride to wear her hair on her wedding day Well, it really depends on her hair type and gown choice, but I really love hair swept up in a classic chignon. It’s perfect if the back of the gown needs to be shown off, and the great thing about that style, too, is the longevity of it—it will last from morning until the last dance!

Favorite finishing product you use that will hold a bride’s hair all day and night I work mainly with Redken styling products, and love them all because they work well to layer the hold of a style from setting to finishing. The finishing product I always use is their Triple Take 32. (And bonus: They all smell amazing!)

Favorite place to spend the morning of a bride’s wedding There is something so special and nostalgic about getting ready in the bride’s family’s home, which is frequently the one she grew up in. Being surrounded by the people closest to her in the comfort of her home, I think, is the perfect place and way to spend her last hours before tying the knot!

Favorite part of getting the bride read on her Big Day I love taking in all the excitement amongst the family and bridal party, and listening to all the stories that are being told. Most groups tend to reminisce about all their fond memories. The mornings are guaranteed to be filled with many laughs, as well as a few happy tears. It’s always a great vibe, and I love that my job allows for me to witness the love between countless family and friends.

Favorite place to get inspiration for how to style a bride’s hair Typically, my main inspiration comes from her gown. There are so many gorgeous wedding dresses today, but each with a distinct style, from princess and glamorous to lacy and romantic. I try to recommend a style that compliments the gown, and that will help complete the look.
