Whenever we talk about the top travel destinations for couples who want nothing more than to lounge on the beach with a drink in hand for the entirety of their honeymoon, it’s usually locations in the Caribbean that rank highest on the list. And for good reason: As someone who has taken her fair share of trips to the islands, I can vouch for the gorgeous beaches (and tasty drinks) they’ve got down there.

But as wonderful a place as the Caribbean is for your post-nuptial getaway, it’s not the be-all end-all of beachy honeymoon destinations—there are plenty of amazing beaches elsewhere in the world, you just have to know where to look.

Although it might seem a bit unexpected, there are actually a bunch of really breathtaking spots in Spain and Portugal that offer sand, sun and ocean water; these countries are often known for their history, culture and architecture but hidden amongst all of that you’ll find stretches of stunning beaches.
