Same-Sex Marriage Has Raked In So, So Much Money Since Becoming Legalized

Long before same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide this past June, we were talking about the positive economic impact it could have on our great state of Pennsylvania and the country as a whole. It was estimated that the legalization of same-sex marriage could generate hundreds of millions of dollars for local and state economies—and lo and behold, that’s exactly what’s happened.

A new study found that in the five months since same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide, both local and state economies have seen a major boost—to the tune of $813 million. Here are a few other numbers we found particularly interesting:

  • An estimated 96,000 same-sex marriages have been performed nationwide since June.
  • Spending from same-sex weddings has generated an estimated $52 million in tax revenue alone.
  • Spending from these marriages can support up to 13,000 full- and part-time jobs in the US.

That’s good news all around! Read more about it here.
