PW Reader Ring: Jessica & Rob!

Jessica's ring!

Jessica’s ring!

The couple: Jessica McAllister and Rob Fisher, from Philadelphia.

The ring: My ring is a yellow gold with a solitaire oval diamond and pave diamonds around the band. He picked the ring out himself, though went in knowing that I an oval diamond and a yellow gold band. I didn’t send him too many hints on what I wanted, though, because I didn’t want him to think I was being a crazy girlfriend!

The proposal: Rob and I talked about getting married all the time, but I had no idea he was planning to do it when he did! See, I had been asking him to take me on a picnic basically since we started dating in 2012, and one day, he finally agreed and told me to pick a date.

So on April 25th, we woke up and went to my parents’ deli for breakfast and hung out with my family for a little. Little did I know that my family was trying to prepare a lot of the food for a surprise engagement party later that day, and I just kept hanging around and not leaving the deli! So finally, Rob says it was time to go on this dreaded picnic, so he packs lunch and we left and headed to Kelly Drive.

As we were about half-way to our picnic locale, I realized I forgot a blanket, and asked if we should run back to the house, but Rob said no and that we should just find a bench to sit on. (Rob knew his family was already at our house setting up for the engagement party.) So we found a cozy spot just before Boathouse Row and spread out our lunch.

As we were finishing, Rob said he wanted to get someone to take our picture so that I would remember he had taken me on this picnic and wouldn’t have to do it again (so romantic!). He found a group of girls walking through the park and got up to ask them to take our picture—but when he went over to them, he whispered that he was going to propose, and for them to pretend they were taking a picture, but to actually video the entire thing. So we posed for a picture, and after that was finished, he told me he had a question to ask me. He got down on one knee, pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him!

After a few pictures and a lot of tears, we went to have a celebratory drink at the Continental Midtown. We had a drink and then headed back home. As we approached the house, I noticed hearts drawn up the steps and then noticed the window was decorated with a “She Said Yes” banner. I opened the door and saw about 65 of our family and friends waiting to celebrate! Needless to say, it was undoubtedly the best day of our lives.

The band: I definitely want a yellow-gold band to match my engagement ring.  I was thinking of something thicker than my engagement band with diamonds so that the wedding band really stands out—but on the other hand I like the idea of two bands, one on each side of the engagement ring.
