You know that we’re big fans of local crafting workshops around here—especially those that are somehow wedding-related, whether it be learning to do calligraphy, tie a bouquet or build an invitation suite.

Workshops are a fantastic way to try your hand at DIY-ing before committing to a project for your Big Day—you know, to see whether you actually like it and if you’re actually good at whatever task you’re attempting to tackle—and Philly is filled with experts who are more than happy to teach you their tricks of the trade.

That brings us to Belovely, the Ambler-based floral and event design studio (remember this darling dahlia bouquet from them?) that hosts a DIY workshop you won’t want to miss: Co-owner Lauren Weintraub and her team are known for their chalk art creations (you know, the so-pretty chalkboards you see at weddings as welcome signs, menu boards, etc.), and through their workshops, you can learn how to make ’em yourself.

The workshops take place at Belovely’s studio (they just moved and are still getting settled, so keep an eye out for their new schedule of classes) and each participant gets their own board and chalk pen to work with. A variety of different designs are available (a la Painting with a Twist) and all of the instruction is given at the beginning of the class so that you can chat with your friends, drink wine and snack while chalking.

The workshops cost $35 per person and last for two hours. Stay tuned to Belovely’s website for an updated list of classes.
