Long gone are the days when a bride’s beautiful white dress got banished to the back of her closet following the Big Day: Married gals are finding all sorts of ways to re-wear and repurpose their wedding gowns well after their walk down the aisle.

And for those of you who don’t mind parting ways with your dress, there’s also the option of selling it. Just last week on the TODAY Show Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford chatted with two experts about the tips and tricks you need to know when selling your dress online. Here’s what they had to say:

Whether you had a change of heart about the first dress you bought or you simply want to make a few bucks to put towards your honeymoon, selling your dress can be a great alternative to letting it gather dust in your closet.

As they mentioned, gowns that are less than two-and-a-half-years-old have the best chance of selling (designer names can sell for 60-70 percent of the retail price!), though there’s a market for older, “vintage” dresses as well. Just be sure to have your dress professionally cleaned first—it’ll help maximize the value and the dress will look its best for its second turn in the spotlight.
