Q: I’ve heard many tales about brides who are unable to sleep the night before their wedding and I’m worried that I’ll find myself in the same situation and be exhausted on my Big Day. Are there any tips and tricks I can use to ensure that I’ll get some shut-eye?

Getting a good night’s sleep before your wedding is a must for any bride—it’ll be quite a long day and you’ll want to be well-rested to avoid running out of steam too early in the evening.

Preparing yourself for a solid sleep begins with controlling your alcohol intake at the rehearsal dinner festivities, which are typically held on the eve of the wedding, says Philadelphia wedding planner Gina Sole. “Relax and enjoy it with maybe just a glass or two of wine or champagne to calm your jitters. Just don’t drink too much, you’ll want to look and feel bright and chipper the next morning,” she says.

And if you still need a bit of assistance getting the shut-eye you need, Sole suggests checking out herbal sleep aids and teas from stores such as Whole Foods or Essene Market & Cafe, which can help you relax before bed. If you do chose to use herbal remedies, though, be sure to test them out before your wedding weekend to see how your body reacts.
