There are two reasons why I am sharing this wedding with you:

1) The first is that it is so fun and clever and they did such a good job with this particular theme that it should be celebrated and you should look at it.

2) It’s an excellent example of how a wedding can have a “theme” without being silly or campy or over-the-top. It can simply be about a fun little common thread that ties everything together.

This Cali couple, Megan and Timmy, did a spin on the recently wrapped TV show How I Met Your Mother by theming their wedding “How I Met My Other.” (Right? So cute!)

They incorporated a few elements that fans of the show will immediately recognize—the yellow umbrella, Barney’s frequent “Suit up!” command, a “Woooo Girl” margarita, and my personal favorite, escort cards that read, “Haaave you met {guest’s name}?”—throughout the day to simply tie the theme together. They didn’t make their cake look like the GNB World Headquarters designed by Ted. The groom did not shave a giant strip down his head and then cover it up with an ugly fedora the way Marshall did on his wedding day—they just scattered a few subtle winks to the show, applied to different parts of their wedding, throughout the day.

Also: that flower girl. Can you even?

We just love how they did it. Take a look. Are you going with a theme for your Big Day? How do you plan to carry it through the party?
