Francesca’s ring!
The couple: Francesca DiDomenico & Waylon Nelson from Philadelphia
The ring: Round diamond with 6 round diamonds on each side in a platinum setting from Govberg Jewelers in Suburban Square. Waylon had asked for a pic of what I wanted a while back. but the delicate setting I originally wanted wouldn’t have been able to support this diamond, so he called me from the store and told me I was going to have to come pick out the setting. To make sure there was still some element of surprise, I picked out three different settings that I would be happy with. (This happened to be my number-one, though!)
The proposal: He had to go to Maine for a few days so he shipped it there so he could show his family. I knew he had the ring when he got back because he told me about all of their reactions! There were a few times I thought he may pop the question but never did, so I decided to stop trying to figure it out and just let it happen.
So, on just another Monday night, only about a week later, we were planning to go to dinner, as we do usually every Monday. I suggested Audrey Claire since we had wanted to try it for a while, and we love BYOBs. We sat down, and they immediately moved us to the table at the window. I didn’t think anything of it—and I also apparently missed him giving the waiter the ring and smuggling in a bottle of champagne under the regular bottle of wine we brought for dinner. (I was starving and focused on the delicious food!) After dinner was finished, the server brought over a piece of cake and said, “This is on us.” Then she reached in to her apron and pulled out the ring box and said, “And this is from him.” He got down on one knee, and simply said, “Babe, will you?” Then the whole restaurant cheered and they brought us the champagne.
The band: I’m not sure what kind of band I will get yet. I don’t think a plain band will do my ring any justice. I will probably opt for a smaller, thinner diamond band. We will definitely go back to Jackie at Govberg and see what she has planned for us!
