Our Current Obsession: Customizing Wedding Details With a Sketch of You and Your Groom!

We love having a Philadelphia Wedding bride around the office!

After our last one got married, we mentioned that we had another wedding coming up in January, and it’s the adorable details from her upcoming Big Day that we’ve just got to show you now. (She being our very fabulous managing editor, Bridget Salmons. Countdown’s on, lady!)

Bridget and her fiance did something we’ve seen only a few times in other weddings, and because we’re just in love with it, we had to share. It’s this idea of using your and your groom’s likeness—like, literally some sort of image of the two of you—to really customize the different details of your day.

For Bridget and Tom, it all started with wanting to carry their playful wintery theme into the details of their Big Day through illustrations and images and objects that invoked Golden Books—you know, the adorable children’s books every single one of us had on our bookshelves as children (Pat the Bunny, anyone?)—and that all started with their invitations.

The ladies at Loveleigh were already taking care of their custom invitations, but they wanted to ask an illustrator to draw them something for the invites’ design. So one of the mag’s art directors (one of the “art boys,” as we affectionately call them around here) recommended Meg Hunt, an illustrator he knew whose work fit the style that Bridget described, all parties involved connected, and when the first sketch came back with a girl in it who just so happened to look like it could be Bridget, they decided: Let’s have the boy look like Tom, and make it us!

You can see the end result right here in the photo—that particular drawing ended up being the back of their RSVP card—and when Bridget stumbled upon an artist on Glitter Guide who makes custom portrait stamps, well, there you go. As you can see, it was only too perfect.

Any other brides out there use some likeness of you and your guy on wedding details? In what other ways are you adding super personal touches?
