Impossible as it may seem given the very nature of proposals, I have heard some cringe-inducing ones in my day. (And I don’t just mean the ones on YouTube where the girl says no. Or even the ones on the Jumbotron at the game where the girl says yes. Ugh.)

But this one wins—and, dear God, I hope nothing ever tops it. Seems a dude in Russia, who felt he needed his lady friend to really, truly understand what her life would be like without him, if just for a moment, faked his own death just before popping the question. And we don’t just mean he somehow supplied her with a false report from afar, or anything, to make her worry—no, he actually made it seem as if he were dead before her very eyes.

Dude worked with a stuntman, a makeup artist, a screenwriter and a director to stage a violent and gory accident scene, which he made sure that she happened upon. He even had ambulances and some poor “paramedic” who had the fun duty of lying to this chick and telling her that her boyfriend was dead, as she gazed down at him covered in blood, before—lo and behold!—dude pops up from a heap in the street and pops the question!

Not surprisingly, the bride-to-be admits that she considered killing him for real—but then she just went ahead and accepted and we assume they’ll all live happily ever after. Cause there aren’t any red flags here, or anything.

Ever heard one more ridiculous than this?
