Bride-to-be Blogger Leslie: Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

I know that the holiday season has long since come and gone, and that we are right smack-dab in the middle of summer, but I wanted to let you all in on a little secret: How I asked my bridesmaids to be in my wedding party!

I knew right off the bat I didn’t want to ask anyone to be in our wedding when my fiancé and I first announced our engagement back in the fall, because I wanted to wait and do something special for my girls. So I held off talking to anyone about the wedding party for two and a half months after we got engaged — it was torture! And by the time I finally decided what I wanted to do, Christmas was right around the corner, so I knew I was going to be asking my friends to be my bridesmaids when we were each celebrating Christmas together.

I started off with four ornaments, letters, scrapbook pictures, paint, ribbon and a paintbrush. I took the clear ornaments and painted each of them. I placed each ornament in the box with these words on top, so it would be the first thing they would see when they opened the box:

“Will You Be My … ”And then on the other side, I painted “Bridesmaid” for three of the ornaments, and “Maid of Honor” for the last one.

I also added a pink, sparkly dress to the side of the ornament to give it a little color pop and add a little fun. I wish I had known what my color scheme for the wedding was going to be then (actually — I still don’t!) because I would have loved to color coordinate.

I was really pleased with the way each of the ornaments turned out. I wanted to give my bridesmaids something to let them know how special they are to me and how much I appreciate them being a part of our wedding day. I put a lot of thought and time (and love!) into these so I hope they loved them!

And guess what else? They all said YES!

What do you think of how I asked my bridal party to be in my wedding? If you are married or engaged, how did you ask your bridesmaids? Or have you ever been asked to be in a wedding party a special way?

If you would like to see my ornaments from start to finish I have detailed pictures in this post.
