On Saturday, October 17th, 2009, the Philadelphia affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure held their annual Pink Tie Ball at the Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia. This year's live auctions included a 2010 Lexus IS 250 Convertible, donated by Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware Lexus Dealers, and a jewelry showcase by Leslie Carroll Designs. On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, 160 Over 90 presented an exclusive look at the De’Longhi Artista Series to celebrate DesignPhiladelphia. Artists Mike Perry, Damien Correll, and Mario Hugo discussed their contributions to the limited-edition line of laser-etched espresso machines, featuring the designs of ten internationally recognized artists. The espresso machines were auctioned through eBay's Giving Works, with proceeds benefiting Oxfam America. Complimentary wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres were served. Photography by Tom Ammon.
On Friday, October 9, 2009, Wills Eye Institute celebrated 175 years as a world-class leader in ophthalmology with a gala at the National Constitution Center. More than 530 guests attended the event, and the evening raised $300,000 to benefit patient care, research, and training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Genetics at Wills Eye Institute.
