On Thursday, November 12, 2009, Philadelphia magazine and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board presented the Sixth-Annual Philadelphia Whiskey Festival, sponsored by Melitta and KYW. The event took place at The Union League of Philadelphia, where guests sampled a collection of premium whiskies and other fine spirits while enjoying tasty bites from The Capital Grille, Village Whiskey, The Palm Restaurant, and Tavern on Broad. The evening also featured a meet and greet with Fred Noe, the great grandson of Jim Beam, and a Melitta Coffee Lounge and a Cigar Bar featuring Holt’s cigars. On Thursday, November 12, 2009, Suzanne F. Roberts received Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s M. Powell Lawton Quality of Life Award at The Union League, in Center City. The award reception and dinner followed PCA’s annual M. Powell Lawton Conference on Urban Aging, which was also held at The Union League that day. The proceeds generated from the M. Powell Lawton award dinner and conference benefited the Emergency Fund for older Philadelphians.
On Sunday, November 8, 2009, the Deborah Hospital Foundation held their Fourth-Annual Red Tie Gala at the Park Hyatt Regency, Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. The evening included dinner, dancing, and live entertainment. An auction helped the Foundation raise $270,000 for cardiac care.
On Friday, November 6, 2009, the Ronald McDonald House held their 35th Birthday Party at the Please Touch Museum. The event featured an address by Mayor Michael Nutter, along with the presentation of the first-ever Dr. Audrey E. Evans Award of Excellence to Dr. Jean Bennett, Dr. Katherine High, and Dr. Albert Maguire for their work in reversing congenital childhood blindness. On Saturday, October 31, 2009, Rittenhouse Row treated kids to some Halloween fun. The day's events included a costume party, trick-or-treating, and a Halloween party at G Lounge.
