The Pennsylvania Ballet kicks off its 42nd season with a Swan Lake Gala at the Academy of Music and the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue on September 29, 2005 . Founded in 1963 by Balanchine student Barbara Weisberger, Pennsylvania Ballet is one of the nation's leading ballet companies. Headquartered in Philadelphia, the Company's annual local season features six productions of classic favorites and new works, as well as the Philadelphia holiday tradition, The Nutcracker.

The new Boyds celebrated the instillation of its new shoe boutique featuring Manolo Blahnik on September 14th. The event was co hosted by W Magazine and showcased the latest Manolo styles while guests enjoyed a private shopping experience with George Malkemus, Manolo Blahnik’s President.

On August 10th, Daily News columnist Stu Bykofsky hosted his annual Candidates ComedyNight to raise money for Variety-The Children's Charity. It's a show in which candidates like Philadelphia District Attorney, Democrat Lynne Abraham takes the stage and tries to be funny on purpose. The show started during the 1991 mayoral campaign in Philadelphia and has grown since then into a "must do" event for candidates. Variety is a non-profit oranization run by volunteers that offers services and programs that improve the quality of life for cildren with disabilities. Some of those include, educational and therapeuticand recreational programs. Variety also offers many other opportunities such as afterschool programs, dance and The Golf-BuddyProgram.
